The other pilot was Eugene Choo Jin Leong. The 45-year-old was married with two sons, aged 10 and 13.
Neighbours told reporters that he and his wife were the most friendly he had met.
He was one of the embattled airline’s most respected pilots and is believed to have been flying MH17 when it was shot down.
His family, along with families of the crew, are now being cared for by Malaysian Airlines at city hotel.
And there are stories of cruel twists of fate. Like 41-year-old steward Sanjid Singh Sandhu. He was not meant to be on MH17 but according to his family had swapped with someone else.
His wife, also a MAS steward, had experienced a similar twist of fate when she was meant to have been on MH370 but swapped with someone else and is not among the 239 missing on that flight.
